Step 1 : At first dry roast only the Moong Dal for a minute in a heated pan. Then take all the  five(5) types lentils together in a container and wash them in lukewarm water. Then keep the lentils soaked for 15 minutes.
Step 2 : After 15 minutes take water and boil it(twice the quantity of all the lentils together) in a pressure cooker to boil the lentils. Then add bay leaves, green chilli and the whole spices & put on the pressure cooker lid for some time on medium flame.
Step 3 : After 4-5 whistles open the lid of the cooker, mix the lentils and keep aside. Now, take a pan and put some oil and some ghee. Then add red chillis, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, ginger paste, chopped tomatoes, curry leaves and saute it for a while.
Step 4 : After that add desiccated coconut for that nice flavor and saute for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and sugar and saute again. Then add the boiled mixed lentils in the mixture. You can take out the bay leaves from it. Now cook it for a while on low flame with the pan lid on.
