DURGA PUJA SPECIAL BHOG KA KHICHDI / MOONG DAL MASALA KHICHDI / TRADITIONAL BHOGER KHICHURI IN AUTHENTIC BENGALI STYLE

Durga Puja is the biggest and most prosperous festival throughout the world. And the most integral part of this festival is Bhog Ka Khichdi or "Bhoger Khichuri".This khichdi has been made as the perfect khichdi for Durga Puja, in authentic Bengali style. The nice aroma of this khichdi and the flavourful taste of  spices make this auspicious and sublime. Do try this at home and give me feedback. I'll be waiting for your reply. Preparation Time :  25 minutes approx.

INGREDIENTS :
                             1. 150 gm gobindo bhog rice or any aromatic rice
                             2. 150 gm moong dal / yellow lentils
                             3. 2 potato cut into half size
                             4. 1 chopped tomato
                             5. some caulliflower cut into cubes
                             6. 1 carrot cut into cubes
                             7. some green peas
                             8. 1 tablespoon coarsely ginger paste
                             9. 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
                            10. 1 tablespoon coriander powder
                            11. 1 tablespoon red chilli powder
                            12. 1 teaspoon turmaric powder
                            13. some whole garam masala
                            14. 2 bay leaves
                            15. 2 green chillis
                            16. 2 dry red chillis
                            17. 1 tablespoon garam masala powder
                            18. 1 tablespoon cumin powder
                            19. some coriander seeds
                            20. 1 tablespoon sugar
                            21. salt to taste
                            22. 2 tablespoon mustard oil
                            23. 1 tablespoon ghee
                            24. 5-6 cups of lukewarm water


                                                 
METHOD
                    Step 1 : Wash the rice properly and after draining it mix it with some ghee & keep aside.Dry roast the dal for a minute on low flame. Now add lukewarm water in it.Add bay leaves,whole garam masala. Cover it for 5 minutes.Dry roast the whole spices including 1 red chilli. Mix it for another minute & make a powder.

                     Step 2 : After 5 minutes open the lid and mix the rice into it. Cover it for 5 minutes.Now take a pan.Put some oil and after heating it give all the remaining tempering whole spices.After stirring it add raw vegetables,and raw peanuts to fry.After that add green chillis, ginger and tomatoes.Now add the fried vegetables into dal and rice mixture.Mix it ,add all powdered masalas including dry roasted masala. Now give some more 2-3 cups of lukewarm water.Cover it for 2-3 minutes on low flame.

                     Step 3 : Open the lid & mix it for 10-12 minutes.Now add sugar in it, make sure that dal and rice is boiled.Turn off the flame after adding some ghee and garam masala .Here it is ready our auspicious dish Bhog ka Khichdi or traditional moong dal masala khichdi. Serve it with some traditional fried alu bhaja, baingan bhaja, papad bhaja and some chutney....
